O.K., the scabbed part of my finger looks great! The "fingernail-less bed" finally stopped bleeding and the centimeter incisions made on the side are healing nicely. Now, that blister on my second knuckle is NEW, as are two other ones further down my finger that you can't see in this picture.
WHAT?! NEW spots of infection?! How can this be while I am currently receiving IV antibiotics? The infectious disease docs wonder the same question.

After this picture was taken, my finger ballooned to three times its normal size. It was super stiff and very painful. I was switched to a different antibiotic and the next morning, August 19, I woke up to a finger that was only twice its normal size and I could bend it somewhat. As the finger shrank, my feet and calved grew and became stiff. My feet, especially the left one, looked like a Hobbit's! It hurt to walk and the doctor insisted on an ultrasound. "An ultrasound? I KNOW I'm not pregnant!" I exclaimed.
Sure enough, I did have blood clots in my legs, causing a decrease in blood return, making my feet swell. Oh goody...I've never had blood clots. I'm so glad to add that to my repertoire! Now folks were a bit freaked out and had lab take ten-yes-TEN-vials of blood (at 3:00 am), plus an IV of heparin and coumadin, two blood thinners.
