Acupuncture: Maybe the "Hokey-POKE-y" Really IS What It's All About
I began trying acupuncture again this week. If you have never had it done, there really is nothing to it. You lie down, tiny needles are inserted, which I hardly ever even feel, and you, well, lie down; or in my case, fall asleep for about 1/2. My new acupuncturist is a retired nurse, so she "gets" the whole picture between Western medicine, homeopathics, and Chinese medicine.
First of all, the acupuncturist spend at least 1/2 hour discussing medical history, and my concerns. (I mainly gave her stuff from 2013 so we wouldn't be there for a week!) My goals are: more feeling in left leg, less nerve pain in both legs, and for my bowels to begin working again on their own. That's a lot to work on at once, but we're giving it a shot.
It's funny that my teaching career began in Nanchang, China, teaching English at a traditional Chinese medical school. I saw lots of acupuncture and thought, "How in the world do people do this?!" And here I am, on my third acupuncturist! Never say never, baby!
After an acupuncture session, it does make me quite tired, which is typical. I will be going every Tuesday for at least a month, so I will post how it goes.

Acupuncture: Week 2
I have used acupuncture two previous times, both of which resulted in me feeling a little worse before feeling better. This time, however, I didn't really feel any differently after the first session, which I thought was better than feeling worse again. After my second treatment, I seemed to feel more tingling sensations in both legs and in my lower back. I seem to have somewhat improved balance and mobility also, which is great. No dice in the digestion category yet, though, but Rome wasn't built in a day.
I have left my walker in the dust and am using a cane, but relying on it less and less each day. I think this is a result of acupuncture as well as other homeopathic treatments such as massage therapy, ionic foot baths, saunas, and nutrition. I am hoping to be "caneless" within two weeks. I have to get better at walking--it's (finally) spring and I must, must, must be in the great outdoors of my own yard!
Blessings,
James

On "Pins and Needles:" Acupuncture Week 3
Holy Moses! I actually went without my cane on Monday, May 6th! I was wobbly and used walls and counters and whatever (or whomever!), but had a great morning. Then I had my first decent afternoon with relatively little pain and reduced fatigue. I think that acupuncture has tipped the scales in my favor. This (along colonics, massage therapy, saunas, ionic footbaths, essential oils, vitamins, nutrition, etc.) is making me recover from this crazy flare more quickly. I cannot feel a lot of my left leg yet, but experience has taught me that the nerves take the longest to repair themselves. Isn't the way God made our bodies incredible?
Well, I went to my third acupuncture appointment on Tuesday, May 7th. How I can fall asleep with needles stuck in me from head to toe I don't know, but it really is virtually painless and I would recommend it to anyone. It has significantly improved my balance and sense of where my body is in a room. (I get dizzy pretty easily in big places like Meijer or Home Depot for some reason.) She is also working on my digestion, which is, well, not working.
Although I am improving, I am having more nerve pain and fatigue today, Wed., May 8th, and have had to resort to the cane for the afternoon. But, it''s all good in the neighborhood. I will have at least one more acupuncture session before going every other week; we'll see how it goes.

Acupuncture Week 4: Let's Get Moving!
I have had more acupuncture and it really is painless, honestly! I actually fall asleep almost every time. (I'm thinking of getting a bed of nails for nap time!) The most benefit that I can feel is my whole digestion issue...or the lack thereof. Acupuncture, in combination with Mag O7 and more whole foods are helping my intestines relearn what their job is in the first place. I continue to improve my balance and awareness of where I am in a room, although I get a little lop-sided when there are many people in a room. I am looking forward to trying a little beach walking to see if I can stay upright. If not, I guess I'll just sunbathe where I fall! :-)
Blessings,
James
