By 6:30, I was having sensitivity on my hand and elbow and off we go to ER in Greenville. I thought it might be a side effect of plasma pheresis, but it wasn't. It was a fast traveling blood infection that landed me overnight in the hospital. Everyone was sure I had smashed it with a hammer, and it sure felt like it too! My finger thobbed so badly that the pain level was a 10. (And I have a HIGH pain tolerance!) The doctor said she had to cut it in two places to relieve the pressure. I didn't want her to even breathe on it, let alone lance it!
I sent Kim out of the room, grit my teeth, and she put a needle in the most sensitive spot to numb it. I think I called her everything but a white woman! Insane pain! It bled and oozed for 24 hours, and I must admit that the throbbing is gone. I am on a serious antibiotic that is stopping the infection from spread throughout my body, which it was quickly doing.
Two days later, my finger is not looking great, but the throbbing is gone. It is very sensitive and I am typing creatively. Crazy stuff!! I'm considering legally changing my name from James to Job! Now, I hope and pray that my next entry is less dramatic! :-)
